Magnetic resinence imaging...MRI'S are they not detrimental? why are they so loud? side effects?
hello, i had a very uncomfortable experience today as i recieved an MRI for possible cervical spinal column issues ie. discs, shooting pain in my arms, hands, legs, foot, HORRIBLE PAIN!! The staff seemed so miserable here in cincinnati, at the west side imaging center/dr. set shababians office.( i would insist on against cincinnatians attending this mri clinic, without going into to detail. anyway) CAN ANYONE ADVISE ME IF MRI'S ARE SAFE? OR ARE THEIR ANY SIDE EFFECTS? im 246lbs, an ex bodybuilding champ and i could not fit in the capsule, my shoulders be too wide? i was wedged surrounded by there like a tomato in a ketchup bottle! anyway, i used ear plugs, and it be still so loud! so loud i thought i was on an lsd trip! what the hell! my last mri was at the bengals stadium, much more updated as its for bigger athletes etc. does anyone think that mri's are harmful? i have a disc of the mri, but my laptop say it could damage my computer to run the disc? any opinions out there on mri stuff? my sides be twitching in the capsule during the test, is that ordinary?

MRI's are totally safe.. as long as you don't have any small metallic or ferrous metal inside your body. It's just utilizes a strong metallic paddock that can chart the magnetic strength that passes though soft tissue much like a metal detector is used to locate stuff surrounded by the ground but a bit more complicated. No radiation involved.. hope this helps.
... be sure to have a head x-ray until that time any MRI's if you work/grind metal.. as metal slivers in your eye could possibly bounce around. Source(s): radiographer
