Have you have arthroscopic shoulder surgery?
I've had shoulder trouble for years and serious pain for a few months. PT and cortisone haven't done much so I'm thinking of surgery. I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who have had arthroscopic surgery for the warnings, suggestions, experiences. Impingement and now perchance something hurt in soft tissue because it clunks a lot.
THANK YOU

I had it in the order of four years ago. Hurt my shoulder in a biking accident and got some make worse around the joint b/w the scapula & clavicle. I *hate* surgery, so I tried everything else first. Over the course of about a year & a half I tried NSAIDs, oral steroids, cortisone, PT, 2 different chiropractors & even acupuncture. Pain only kept getting worse and worse, had that godawful clunking sound all the time. Wound up have to have surgery, and it more or less worked.
Gloriously pain free for in the region of the first 2 years, but now it flares up every now and then. Usually go away with a little ibuprofen or naprosyn. I have a PT regimen that seem to help some. Personally, I'd try everything else first. Surgery as a last resort.
And, of course, LISTEN to your doc, ask question, and do EXACTLY what they say. Source(s): just personal experience, as asked. Not an MD.
I had arthroscopic surgery for a condition call MDI (multi-directional Instability). Anyway, the recovery was awful. I had muscle spasms that seem to go from my head down to my toes. Very painful. Heaven sustain me if I sneezed. I did PT 3 days a week after that. Didn't help at all. I have predetermined mobility in the backwards direction. It's been about 4 years and the popping have returned. I've been in pain ever since I have the operation.
