I myself am a medicinal chemist, but the compounds I make are tested by pharmacologist. Training-wise, it is heavy on the biology and biochemistry side, so natural chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, and kinetics are a must, and some knowledge of anatomy. Pharmacologist test these compounds surrounded by both cell based assays, but the also test them in animal models. This includes trialling the drugs for toxicity, so after an assay is run, the animal is sacrificed and dissected. Just giving you a heads up, those buggers sometimes bite.
I did Pharmacology for 4 years and man, it was so interesting. Just read your transcript and textbooks and you will find it interesting. Make sure you understand each topic b4 you shift to the next. Pharmacology is the studt of the human body such as to appreciate the way drugs act once they receive into the body and why the drugs are used in the first place. Dont panic at all, you will find it smooth and interesting. Source(s): Myself
