How does Amputation work?

if they sver the viens how does blood flow back into the heart instead of just swelling at the base of the leg.
Answers:
Actually, a polite question.

Post-op swelling is a big problem (at first) for most amputees.

First, less blood is going into the leg, so there's less to return. Also, the body will try to "re-route" the returning blood, etc.

It's resembling a person who has a vein contained by the leg removed, either for cardiac surgery, or for varicose veins. While some people business with swelling, for most it's not as bad as you'd think. Source(s): vascular surgery PA
