How addictive is Co-codamol? And how speedily could you become addicted?

Hi, I am doing a paper on OTC (over the counter) drug addictions and I have completed adjectives of the other drugs required for me to investigate except co-codamol, there is not that much information out there to look at. I need to know how addictive co-codamol is, how swiftly you could become addicted and how much it would take to become addicted.
I know this is alot to ask however this would really help me out as my paper is due contained by Tuesday! Thanks

I hold taken quite a bit of co-codamol over the past few years and found the feeling to be extremely mentally addictive, probably as much as cannabis is. That nature of 'false sense of wellbeing' that you get from co-codamol is one that I crave on a regular basis but I try to control myself!
Co-codamol contains both paracetamol and codeine. The codeine can be addictive (as it is an opiate), although the slow onset of this oral preparation make this less severe than for most opiates. I don't think that the paracetamol shows physiological dependence, although psychological dependence is possible (less likely than for the codeine).
Doses of codeine in co-codamol are very low, and without it person abused it would be quite hard to develop an addiction to it, though using the maximum allowed dose over a few weeks it might be possible in some cases. By this time though, the liver smash up arising from such intensive paracetamol use would be the biggest worry, especially if the addiction causes use of co-codamol to continue.

At penny - such low doses of codeine as found surrounded by co-codamol will not give any real sense of well human being unless the codeine is extracted or multiple co-codamols (and thus a dangerous level of paracetamol) are consumed. Stop lying. Source(s): Pharmacology PhD
