Something stronger than Amoxicillin?
I'm 22, and I've been getting a sore throat every two or three months or so for the past two years. Each time, my doctor prescribes a week's worth of Amoxicillin. It works great, and then it comes stern a few months later. Last time he did a quick strep test, and it come back negative. I don't smoke. I'm getting it again, and would like to ask him for any something stronger or different. I don't know if I should ask for a higher mg of Amoxicillin, or look into a different kind of medication. I'm starting to get annoyed around going through the same thing over and over again.

stop giving BJs. STDs are possible in the throat!
Antibiotics such as Amoxicillin ONLY work on bacterial infections. They do NOTHING for viral infections, or other kinds of inflammation/irritation, or anything else. Strep is the typical cause for a bacterial strep throat, and since you are negative for strep it's not feasible that you even need antibiotics.
You only need to turn to the doctor for a sore throat if it occurs with a high restlessness, or if it lasts more than a couple days. It's completely normal to get a sore throat next to the common cold. It's unfortunate to get a cold every couple of months, but not impossible. It's also possible that some environmental factor is irritating your throat (pollution?) and it freshly takes some time for you to get over it. I have have mild sore throats in the past that went away after drinking marine to get more hydrated.
you don't need the amoxicillin surrounded by the first place. The reason strep throat is treated in children has nought to do with the sore throat, it is prevention of rheumatic heart disease. Adults only need treatment if working around small children.
why don't you ask him to culture your throat subsequent time to see if there is some bug actually worth treating. He has be using amoxicillin inappropriately so far.
well if ur strep test is negative after u dont hv a bacterial infection. so u can probably get off amoxycillin. but if ur sore throat has be recurring for 2 yrs you must also try gettin a tuberculosis test done. most probably its negative but one must'nt run a chance.
another cause can also be allergy to something in the environment.
also within are other antibiotics like ampicillin, erythromicin, azithromycin etc. but if ur already on a weekly dose. my advice would be to keep it that approach
It isn't a matter of "stronger." As a matter of certainty, even if there were such a thing, it would be a unpromising idea. You yourself say the treatment has be effective, so that's that. Discovering the reason for your recurrent episodes is an entirely different query from the treatment of the episodes.
