What would be the effects of a spinal cord hemisection at the height of L1?

I need to answer this question for a class and I cannot find the answer for the life of me. Thanks :)
Answers:
Try Brown-Séquard syndrome.
look ur spine in a very impressive part of ur bone ,u can become par laze if u don' t have it fix.L1 is close to ur neck. Source(s): Go to www.Web.md and type surrounded by spinalcord hemisection and it will tell u verything u need to know ,
The spinal cord ends at the L1 vertebral even (on average) so answering this question involves quite a bit of figuring out what your guru is looking for because it can be answered in many ways.

First, he/she may mean the L1 cord stratum rather than vertebral level (vertebral level would be more common/standard). If so, this would niggardly the cord level where the L1 root enters and hemisection near would result in a lower extremity Brown-Sequard syndrome (paralysis of all lower extremity muscles on the side of section, loss of juddering and position sense on the side of the section, and loss of pain and temperature sensation surrounded by the other leg).

Second, if he/she means vertebral level then results will alter because some have no cord at L1, some have the tip (conus), and some will have even more cord here. A unilateral conus section is likely to give urinary and fecal incontinence issues.

Third, technically "cord hemisection" would not include any booth of nerve roots. At the L1 vertebral level it will be mostly or all roots in the thecal sac. If roots are included in the section then the unilateral cauda equina syndrome would result as mentioned by another responder.

Personally, I would receive clear you are speaking about the L1 cord level and then dispense the Brown-Sequard answer. It is the cleanest answer and is most likely to be what they are looking for.
painful
This would cause a unilateral "Cauda Equina Syndrome".

Best wishes and suitable luck.
