MY hematocrit is 18. Tell me what that manner medically specificaly as to how low i.e.?

Answers:
Normal hematocrit values are:
Newborn: up to 60%
Adults: (males): 40- 54%
(Females): 36 – 46%
Pregnancy: decreased hematocrit, especially in the last trimester as plasma volume increases
Children: vary with age

Because the hematocrit is a percentage of red blood cells, as compared to the total volume of blood, any increase or decrease surrounded by plasma volume affects the hematocrit.

Hematocrit: critical low and high values:
A hematocrit of less than 15% can result in cardiac dead loss
A hematocrit of over 60% may result in spontaneous blood clotting

How a patient responds to a low hematocrit depends on whether the blood loss is acute or chronic. If a person near a normal blood cell volume loses blood suddenly through a massive hemorrhage, the person may develop signs and symptoms of circulatory shock; the blood pressure will fall and the lenient will show signs of tissue hypoxia and shock. However, a person with chronically low hemoglobin, such as a patient on renal dialysis, may tolerate oddly low hemoglobin. A major reason for anemia in patients next to renal failure is lack of erythropoetin to stimulate bone marrow production.

Are you having any severe symptoms? Did you own your HCT test after bloodloss, right after you hydrated yourself? These do affect the results. Are you on any medications for low HCT?
