The person's OWN stem cells (which would be an adult) has the least risks of rejection and gvhd. However, explicitly based on what is currently available, and for many diseases that adult stem cell can treat, its not possible (an overwhelming majority of the diseases adult stem cells can treat are treated next to a bone marrow transplant, and with many of the diseases the person's own stem cells cant be used because the disease is contained by their marrow).
With embryonic stem cell research, the hope is that they can minimize the risks of rejection and gvhd to basically none by "programing" the stem cells with the person's own dna. But, we dont know for sure if to be precise how it will work yet or not, as the first human embryonic stem cell trials still havent started (supposed to start sometime this summer)
