my doc told me that he was very good at the practice of Appendicitis surgery. ummm.... he is praticing surgery on me?! hell no!

If you simply use an online dictionary, say, merriam-webster online, you'll see that physicians practice their profession like way lawyers do or jewelers do. It's unnerving that there is such a paucity of dictionaries currently as there is a dearth of maps as per Miss South Carolina:
