What is difference between cbc and blood smear?

cbc is a total blood count where a smear you are looking for just particular neutrophils or leukocytes
CBC is a question paper that is done on blood.
Frequently the blood sample is "smeared" onto the slide.
The method has zilch to do with the result.

The CBC can be performed with flow cytometry, an automated method of counting cell. It will give you the number or percent number of the subpopulations of cells in the blood. It also give the hemoglobin concentration and certain volumetric parameters about the blood cell that are important.
The smear can accomplish two things. First it can confirm the above manually. That is a person with a counting device will look surrounded by a microscope and confirm the automated count when it is in question.
Second, it can tell around the morphology (shape) of cells which can be diagnostic of certain conditions like sickle cell disease or thalessemia or DIC. There are so frequent conditions that can affect the blood cell population that there is a whole specialty of medicine devoted to it: hematology.
