Life support electrical device unplugged?

in a comic strip years ago there was a cleaning party who unknowingly unplugged someones life support machine to plug in a floor buffer or some piece of cleaning equipment. can this in actual fact happen or is there a safety to prevent it person "accidentally" unplugged?

Anyone who is on life support will be in ICU. ICUs are set up so that patients are constantly monitored. They have a nurse watching them at adjectives times. They are never in a room with no one else contained by them like on TV. All cubicles can be seen from the central ICU hub.

The machines are adjectives plugged in but all have battery so they will run for some time if they are unplugged and will alarm if the batteries are running low. So no, this would not happen.
