What does a Family Doctor do?

Can someone convince me to go into the medical field, specifically this job? Additional information beside the answers to my question would be greatly appreciated.

1) Can a family doctor (e.g. male) give a physical examination to the contrasting sex or only the same sex?
2) Does a family doctor make a contribution physical examinations to both the young and the old or only a specific age span?
3) What else does a family doctor do?
4) Are there any pros and cons of becoming a family doctor?
