Why do unmoving folks look ghastly when they are embalm?

Now I know that one reason is because they no longer sustain life (obviously). But when I say ghastly, I be going to they even surpass looking like a normal dead individual would as in they look unreal like a waxed integer. The reason I asked this was because I recently attended the funeral of a friend of mine and what I saw within the casket was disturbing. She was 18 but she looked 48 and had a worried/frowning expression on her frontage. Also, her chest looked unusually bloated and stiff as if it were stuffed with paper or something and her mouth be sunk in. Her sister was traumatized by what she witnessed to the point where she have to be escorted out of the funeral home. Anyway, couldn't they be made to look somewhat decent and more presentable?
Answers:
actually, they did try to make her more presentable. unconscious people will look even more 'ghastly' than you describe if left alone. there won't be blood to administer skin the right color & texture, and, i don't like to say this because she's your friend, but since you asked: dead people's bodies bloat and the body rots in hours. they take out the waste and pump it with chemicals so that won't ensue. and makeup just won't stick right to dead skin.
sorry i didn't intend to sound pitiless, & i feel sorry the sis too. my condolences
