Side effects of Metronidazole on infants?
My baby boy of 5 months old, was diagnosed next to stomach infection, and was prescribed Bacigyl -N, which contains metronidazole. He developed diarrohea and convulsions. Within 2 days we consulted another doctor and she changed the medicine. However the convulsion continued and he had to be admit to the hospital for treatment on convulsion. EEG reported some activity in the left side of the brain. MRI brain scan audition concluded the brain structure was normal. After starting tegrital the convulsions have stopped. However the doctor have asked to continue the medicines until the next EEG check is carried out and if the activity in the brain has reduced the drug would be stopped little by little. The doctors are not sure about the exact cause of the convulsions even after carrying all the test.I would like to have your opinion essentially episode.

I am a pharmacy student, and looked for information about metronidazole in my Clinical Pharmacology resource. Diarrhea is a common side effect. It said convulsive seizure have been reported with metronidazole psychiatric help. I think this is a pretty rare side effect. I'm sorry your son experienced this and hope he recovers soon. I'm sure it's get to be scary for you. Source(s): Clinical pharmacology
