Colonoscopy- what to expect- remarkably frantic?

i have been told i have to enjoy a colonoscopy in the next week or two due to persistant stomach problems.
Doctor suspects IBS,
I am EXTREMLY worried about this procedure as the doctor told me it will hurt, be terrifically uncomfortable and quite difficult.
Has anyone had this done and could you make clear to me what to expect.
Im not particulary comfortable having to have the laxative goo and be "exposed and vunerable" like that.
can anyone comfort me??

You need to just go get hold of it over with, it's will not be very bad because thay administer you something to put you out a little so you will not know what is going on and here is what all thay are going to do:
Colonoscopy is a medical procedure where a long, flexible, tubular instrument call the colonoscope is used to view the entire inner lining of the colon (large intestine) and the rectum.
Description
The procedure can be done either within the doctor's office or in a special procedure room of a local hospital. An intravenous (IV) line will be started contained by a vein in the arm. The patient is mostly given a sedative and a pain-killer through the IV line.
During the colonoscopy, the patient will be asked to flop on his/her left side with his/her knees drawn up towards the abdomen. The doctor begin the procedure by inserting a lubricated, gloved finger into the anus to check for any abnormal masses or blockage. A thin, well-lubricated colonoscope will consequently be inserted into the anus and it will be gently advanced through the colon. The lining of the intestine will be examined through the scope. Occasionally nouns may be pumped through the colono-scope to help clear the path or open the colon. If at hand are
excessive secretions, stool, or blood that obstruct the viewing, they will be suctioned out through the scope. The doctor may press on the tummy or ask the patient to change his/her position in instruct to advance the scope through the colon.
The entire length of the large intestine can be examined within this manner. If suspicious growths are observed, tiny biopsy forceps or brushes can be inserted through the colon and tissue samples can be obtained. Small polyps can also be removed through the colonoscope. After the procedure, the colonoscope is slowly withdrawn and the instilled nouns is allowed to escape. The anal area is then cleansed with tissues.
The procedure may transport anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours depending on how easy it is to advance the scope through the colon. Colonoscopy can be a long and self-conscious procedure, and the bowel cleaning preparation may be tiring and can produce diarrhea and cramping. During the colonoscopy, the sedative and the pain medications will hold the patient very drowsy and relaxed. Most patients complain of minor discomfort and pressure from the colonoscope moving inside. However, the procedure is not painful.
Its generally a pretty simple procedure and you will most likely be sedated during it. You will essentially sleep through the procedure if this is the case. When you wake up up you should feel fine and quite possibly know what is causing your discomfort contained by the first place. I can certainly understand why you may be a bit uncomfortable thinking around it but you must remember that many people go through these types of procedures and the gastroenterologist is a professional explicitly only trying to help you. I'd find another doctor if for no better reason than "piss poor bedside manner". I suspect lack of skill if the doctor is telling you "it will hurt, be impressively uncomfortable and quite difficult". Most people procure sedated for the procedure. It sounds to me like this doctor is into inflicting pain upon patients. A 2nd opinion is needed, from a board certified gastroenterologist (you should find a woman doctor as she will work out your concerns.
i am surprised that a doctor would have given u this infomration as they would be trying to reassure u. my daughter has had regular colonoscopys since age 12 and whilst they are pretty unpleasant and self-conscious they are something that has to be got thru to find out what is wrong. with a colonoscopy u will own to drink the laxative whichever they are currently using either picolax or cleanprep both pretty disgusting but u can mix them with a drink they will give u instructions what can be used. at hand is no point trying to shortcircuit this by not taking it as if they look and yr bowels are not clean enough they will send u away to drink more and will result within u hanging round for hours and wasting their time. as to being exposed and vulnerable they do lots of these every daytime. i guess from this ur not used to this type of thing, but the doctors and nurses are very description and are used to it many times a day. try to relax as that will help. my other daughter have a sigmoidoscopy yesterday which doesnt go as far in and which u just involve a self administered (at home) enema for and no sedation it was unpleasant and not very nice for her but she got thru it lately like everyone else so try not to worry and good luck. hopefully they will find whats wrong or at lowest possible eliminate anything serious and u will soon be better.

On the morning you budge in, you are in a private area, next to curtains. And I promise, you feel nothing. When it was over, I woke up, put my clothes on, and walk out to my car. My sweetie drove me home, and I was told to sign no contracts that day. Fine.

I had a pre-med the sunshine before and then I was surrounded by the hospital the following morning.
I was given a light sedative to lift the edge of and taken to the examination room. You lay on your side and the doctor is behind you, at hand was a nurse with me and she held my hand during the procedure.
The doctor will give an account you to relax and he then gently pushes the camera in. To be honest I did not discern embarrassed by the procedure as they made me feel very much at confidence.
I won't lie to you by saying it does not hurt, however its not a major cramp more an uncomfortable feeling.
Its over quick and at hand is no after effects.
Try not to worry to much about it and I am sure it will go economically.

I admit I haven't had it - but I did nick my father to the hosp to have one.
It's actually rather jammy (from what he tells me) and the only thing notable he has was that obviously your backside will be sore afterwards, but they do present you something during the treatment so you don't feel too much. Afterwards, his stomach was bloated and they basically said if you consistency like passing wind, tolerate it out.
Don't worry, it's perfectly normal and its particularly easy now compared to a few years ago! And remember, you will be with professionals so they will not see this as anything excluding their 'work'.
