To be a registered nurse, you must pass the T-test and register nursing exam (state).

A register nurse works in all field from writing patient information to charting documents and assisting physicians or doctors. It usually takes about 2-4 years depending which academy you are looking at. Aside from the learning, you need to use your time wisely and experience on the style... having a job and raising kids is a huge distrustful impact towards RN goal.
