Which part of a set of the skull is the cranium?
I've been studying anatomy lately, and I've run into some confusion. Some sources tell me that the cranium is the actual rounded braincase, and the the rest of the skull comprises the facial bones. Other sources say that the cranium is everything except the mandible, and that a skull is a cranium plus a mandible.
How can I find out which is the standard standard?
(And yes, I know it's probably a bit of a trivial thing in the medical community, but I'd like to be using the correct lingo anyhow.)
