can it work in a different way, for example if you gave a in shape person a placebo and told them that it would make them ill would they start to develop symptoms?

Probably, if the suggestion is strong enough, plausible and told by a integer in authority/ an expert. The mind is a curious thing and open to suggestions - glum or positive.
