2.5 mgs of Xanax a day?! Wow, I would sleep adjectives the time!
I didn't know that klonopin was used by psychiatrists.
My husband takes about a partly mg. of klonopin before bedtime for a sleep disorder, and his mom took klonopin for seizures.
Good luck with which ever passageway it goes.
Xanax and Klonopin are both benzodiazepines and taking one while tapering off the other prevents any withdrawl problems.
Klonopin is longer-acting so you won't stipulation to take as much of, or as frequently as you do, the Xanax; that's all. Source(s): Experience.
I tried switching from Xanax to Klonopin with no thinning and it didn't work. I had severe rebound anxiety to the point I had to only just start taking the Xanax again. Now I am completely tapering off Xanax because I have be on Effexor XR for a month and it is effective in controlling my general and social anxiety. I am just going to begin taking the Klonopin on a daily basis if it comes to the point that I requirement to, but I think Effexor XR is effective enough on its own and I hold enough extra Xanax that my doctor said I should keep and use "as needed" for panic attacks should I ever receive one.
Because your dosage of Xanax is so high, I would probably taper to 1mg of Xanax per day before making the switch. 1mg per sunshine of Klonopin is a normal starting dose, and the ratio of Xanax:Klonopin is 1:1. You should be coordinating all of this with your doctor because you don't want to taper too vigorously off Xanax and you also don't want to combine too much Xanax with too much Klonopin if you are to coadminister them. The link below have lots of useful information on benzodiazapine use.
Sorry that I don't have much more to say except that my switch from Xanax to Klonopin never happen...
Have you ever considered Paxil, Effexor, or Buspar for your anxiety? In my opinion they are far superior as far as quality of life is concerned. Benzodiazapines be never meant to be taken for so long. Source(s): http://www.ashtonbenzomanual.com/
