I am on a zombie fix...?

I have been reading 'world war z' and am exasperated by how the author tries to kind zombies seem possible, while contradicting every biological, psychological and physiological law. Zombies have senses( at lowest possible sight and sound) and aggression, yet no metabolism. Their cells survive freezing and thaw without necrosis(pardon the word). They are sterile, as no bacteria grows on them; yet can verbs their blight via contact. Can someone make sense of the authors canon dealing with zombies, here? Why all this pseudo science as unwilling simply saying "a wizard made them'?
