The way they expained it to me contained by medical school was that air's supposed to go surrounded by and out, blood's supposed to go 'round and 'round, and if those don't happen, it ain't good.
The amount of blood and whether it stops are of some stress, but if you believe the old surgical maxim (all bleeding stops) you might not worry too much. After adjectives, the worst that could happen would be that you'd bleed to death.
