Go to this site any time i have see this abnormality it has been environmentally associated I wouldn't stress over it they can always theory test the amniotic fluid for a variety of abnormalities Be sure and talk to her ob gyn and seize a really good explanation
cleft lip happens a lot.
more so in 3rd world countries.
however, the condition is completely fixable I'm sure you know. doctors today are very strategic when it comes to hiding the scars.
very seldom is a cleft lip/ cleft palate severe enough to affect a baby's health. and that case is lone when the lip, hard palate (roof of mouth), and soft palate (back portion of roof of mouth) do not fuse together during development (making proper eating behaviour nearly impossible). but again that is VERY rare and COMPLETELY repairable.
genetics do play a role, but i believe it is more base upon the baby's development in the womb
I don't agree with the "VERY rare" statement..1 in 600 children are born with a type of cleft ..There's no track of telling the odds of it being passed down if you're not sure if it's genetic next to your brother..Was his spontaneous, genetic, environmental factors? Studies are being done in
Air pollution
Alcohol
Chemicals and solvents
Diet and nutrition
Drinking dampen
Drugs
Electromagnetic fields
Folic acid/vitamins
Gene-environment interactions
Hazardous waste sites
Illness/ infections
Medications
Obesity and body mass
Occupation/hobbies
Pesticides
Prenatal care/pregnancy
Smoking
Social/economic factors
Stressful existence events
My daughter was born with a cleft lip and palate..We went through a 2 and a partially hour study about water..How much water did you drink, how recurrently did you swim, how many times did you wash your hands, how long be your baths..etc etc etc..Hers is not do to lack of folic acid, not smoking or drinking, no drugs, not genetic..Hers was an isolated, spontanious cleft lip and palate..It only happened..She has a 5-7% chance of have a child with a cleft..I'm not sure what it would have been if it be genetic..
