How are acids and basis imoprtant to tablets?

any examples of pH values and how acids and bases are important to medicine!! gratefulness
Answers:
Human serum in health should have a pH of 7.4. Less than this is acidosis - occur in diabetes, starvation, and Obstructive bronchial disease. More than this is alkalosis - occurs in liver and kidney disorders
If a elemental drug is given to an acidotic patient, the drug becomes ionized, which decreases it's lipid solubility. This way less of the drug will cross the cell membrane to cause it's response. The more non ionized a drug is, the more lipid soluble it is, so the better it works. So....basic drug works better surrounded by basic environment, acidic drug works better in sharp environment. The acid Base balance is very far-reaching to medicine. There is a very fine line between acidosis and alkalosis. Many meds effect the acerbic base balance. To sustain life the acerbic base balance in humans is 6.8 - 7.7. For example if a pt is given too much Sodium bicarbonate is can result in a low ph. Also many meds that depress the respiratory function can cause the pt ph increase. It is a thin strip to sustain life so as a medical Professional it is very important to know what meds we put into a pt and what they affect.
