National youth medical forum? should I budge?

Hi, I received a letter that said I was nominated and selected out of tons high school students to attend the national youth medical forum. Its for 10 days and you do many medical happenings and shadow doctors and physicians while they perform surgeries and other medical things, the catch is that it is $2,500. Is it worth attending? I'm a sophomore in glorious school, do you think I'll get invited again subsequent year? Would it look good on college applications or would saying that I volunteered at a hospital be just as correct?
Answers:
Sorry to burst your bubble, but you were not "nominated". Your name is on a mailing record.

NYLF uses deceptive marketing techniques to sell overpriced military camp to people with more money than sense. It's worthless for college applications. For that $, you could take a pre-college summer course at a genuine university and get college credit. (That's what one of my daughters did last summer and is doing again this summer.)

Volunteering is a much more valuable experience, and will in actual fact help you with getting into the college of your choice.

It's not the last time you'll be sent FALSE mail. Start looking out for it. The next one will be that you're included in an expensive book of top dignified school scholars. Don't get taken.
