What does a foreign doctor entail to practice prescription contained by the U.S?

My step dad is a doctor (he went to medical school in Brazil) and after practicing pills in his home country he moved to the U.S.
He's been residing there justifiably for a few years but hasn't been able to work as a doctor.
I do know that he needs to rob the ECFMG or the Fifth pathway certification, but is there more to it? Is there anywhere he can catch samples of the test for practice?

That and also the USMLE.... afterwards he has to do rounds in the hospital as an intern and then as a resident. Basically its as if he basically graduated from Medical School except he has to take the USMLE and ECFMG which will allow him to do rounds lower than an attending physician.
He has to be on top of all this things...
