Answers:
PFTs typically assess suspected pulmonary conditions such as asthma, COPD, or cystic fibrosis. If he failed his PFT, it would be in his best interest to find out why (unless, logically, one of these conditions has already been diagnosed). Having a CT done will give a radiologist a luck to check for obstructed airways, presence of pulmonary disease, or possibly tumors, or simply give a clean bill of health.
