How does "truth serum" work? I meditate it call something close to sodium penathol though I may be wrong on that.?

AND, what the heck is wrong with that in criminal interrogations. Especially in cases of kidnap, child abduction, rape, pedophilia, or a murder suspect
And I hate that "slippery slope" argument. The truth is the truth is the truth.
How about if they were wrong the accuse could file a civil suit against he government? Would it be OK then?
What if it be YOUR child that was kidnapped, and they had the guy who be suspected of abducting him/her and it could be a matter of life or loss if the person wouldn't talk? Would your position change?
(I don't plan just randomly drugging ppl. I mean suspects who enjoy met all requirements of arrest and warrants and the like.)
Answers:
Simple answer: There is NO SUCH THING AS A TRUTH SERUM THAT WORKS 100% CORRECTLY OR THAT WORKS 100% OF THE TIME OR IN 100% OF THE SUBJECTS.
Hence one doesn't usually depend on it since its not always reliable...A detailed answer follows :-)

Truth serum are drugs used contained by narco-analysis that cause a person to become uninhibited, but they do not guarantee the veracity of the subject’s statement. People who are under the influence of truth serums enter a hypnotic state and speak freely going on for anxieties or painful memories. The subject’s imagination is neutralised when semi-conscious, making it difficult for him/her to lie and his/her answers would be restricted to facts of which he/she is aware.

Reliability:

Although inhibitions are generally reduced, those under the influence of truth serums are still able to lie and even tend to fantasize because of his semiconscious state. It can be used for discovery, and to corroborate information near other facts.

Drugs administered:

Sodium pentothal is an ultrashort-acting barbiturate, which sedates only for a few minutes. It slows down the heart rate, lowers blood pressure, and inhibits brain and spinal cord activity. Sodium amytal and Scopolamine are other drugs used. Some benzodiazepines enjoy been used as truth agents; most notably, the Soviet Union used temazepam for this purpose.

Legal position:

Such tests commonly do not have legal validity as confessions made by a semi-conscious human being are not admissible in court. The court may, however, grant limited admissibility after considering the circumstances beneath which the test was obtained. In the key, these tests can only assist police investigations. Bottom line: it doesn't work. You could simply as easily use vodka as a "truth serum" - we all know that drunk people never recline. Source(s): Pentothal is an anesthetic drug that I've given to zillions of people (before we got propofol).
It is a ruin of the fifth amendment right to not incriminate one's self, and the confession would be thrown out as well as any evidence gained from that confession, and you couldn't convict them.
It is really pointless in overnight case where the crime is done, such as murder, rape, etc. You might find out the truth but you'd be giving the person a free pass. Besides, even if it be admissible you'd have to convince that what the person said in an intoxicated state be the truth.
You'd be better off having an undercover cop invite the suspect out for a beer and videotape it. If he voluntarily intoxicates himself then doesn`t matter what he says is his own fault.

ACTUALLY it reads "nor shall be compelled contained by any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, short due process of law;" It does not specify that this be within a courtroom. Also forcing medication on someone is legally considered a vandalism of their liberty, so again, violates that amendment. statements made by a suspect after nearly beating them to departure aren't admissible just because you mirandized them either.
It temporarily weakens rudeness response within the brain and lowers mental activity making the suspect vulnerable to grilling and telling what they know, cause think give or take a few it; making a lie takes thinking to do and with the serum contained by effect the suspect is render less and can only give culture which is already stored in the long term memory. And some answers on the misjudgment of the serum, if the serum is to fail surrounded by most cases (as seen on FBI Files) there is a recording made of the suspect contained by there vulnerable state as proof; so that in such a valise it cannot be negotiated or defended that the suspect did not make such a claim he did earlier while on the serum.
