Basically that if no one living was competent to tell the difference from themselves and anything else living, that is to say, if we didn't hold an immune response at all- we'd all merge into a giant ball of technically living stuff like cytoplasm and organelles -but similar to - we'd have no...there wouldn't be a 'you' and a 'me', because if no system existed to keep two living things apart, later those things would come together.
think of it like this, normally, if a germs invades you - you RESPOND. right? Now, you respond because your body has an immune system designed to keep other living things - and non living things - out of you. now... if you didn't enjoy that immune system (immune system = regulatory and recognition mechanism), your body would be just fine with microbes inhabiting it with all sorts of things happening - you'd be a host to a million other living things. and soon we adjectives would be part of the same "ball of protoplasm".
contained by terms of an immune response, it's like saying, if your body didn't spot bacteria invading it, it'd just... let them.
within terms of an autoimmune disease - obviously your body loses control and basically go psycho on itself, and thinks certain cells that are clearly legit and cool are actually rogue, and your immune system goes around killing what it think are the 'bad cells'. so your body in this case loses sight of self and non-self again, because it have no idea that it's actually killing itself.
disorders that arise... hmm so copious - lupus, diabetes type 1 (though it's localised, kills off only the beta islet cell in the islts of langerhans in your pancreas - and nothing else. still ample to screw you over!), chron's... what else... guillan barre...
best of luck! Source(s): check this out: http://www.labtestsonline.org/understand…
