Why are fast-food franchises allowed contained by hospitals?
Isn't that kind of defeating the supposed purpose of a hospital?

Business is business but I agree. When I discovered a McDonald's in my hospital I couldn't help but crow. Thankfully the contract ran out and it is being replaced by another store which supposedly sells in good health food. Source(s): PA
I guess because at hand is a free market and they know they can make money there. Here surrounded by the UK, the public can use the staff canteens, and also there is usually a cafeteria provided by the hospital league of friends. I've not heard of any quick food companies in hospitals.
Davina Opines - I'm afraid there are briskly food places in UK hospitals! Try Southampton General - right in the main lobby is Burger King and you enjoy to walk past it to get anywhere. They've also merely opened a coffee shop - I think Starbucks maybe? Try getting a on the brink meal in one of those - it's giant sandwiches or muffins galore. The simple explanation is that they create lots of money in quite a small space and the hospital can charge them more rent for the space. UK hospitals are strongly encouraged to top up their income contained by ways like this. But I agree that it sets a terrible example and it's ridiculous! Though most of the people I've see using those places are rushed staff who have 5 minutes to grab some food!
I think adjectives fast food restaurants should only be accessible by a half-mile footpath. That would solve a lot of problems.
Hospitals gotta stay in business somehow by packing their arteries with cholesterol and charging them for it. They sure don't get rewarded for taking care of patients. Not by the HMOs anyway.
