Flea & tick treatment for my 9 mo hoary GSD. Can I use a sleeping pill or anti anxiety tablet 1st?
It's flea & tick treatment time for my 9 mo old GSD. Can I use a human sleeping pill like Lunesta or an anti anxiety tablet like Lorazepam, since attempting this? She is large and I don't have anyone to help me beside this task. She won't stay still enough for me to be accurate and consistent with the strip of application from neck to base of tail.
I know there are promising veterinarian medicines I could give her for this and as a last result will dance to the vet tomorrow to get something from them---if they issue such a thing. I am afraid they will tell me they can apply the treatment for $80.
Please, no moralizing roughly proper care or how I should be rich before caring for a dog. I love my dog and don't want her to suffer from the fleas and ticks and own purchased the treatment which was expensive enough.
Thanks for those who will help me know if any of those medicines will be OK to help me, help her.
Answers:
The distraction view is good.
On the other hand, what kind of treatment are you using?
I use Frontline Plus. I simply bare the little vial onto the nape of the neck and that's it. It works really well. Which is good, an Old English Sheepdog can be VERY hyper.
Consider getting a friend or two to play next to her while you are treating her. Some puppies will behave when they are distracted. That is better than drugs.
Plan B--get a friend to continuously slowly slip her food treats while you are treating her--cookies or even pellets of dog chow. Again distraction is the key. Source(s): Experience.
