X sunbeam tech didn't use a organize apron on me when taking knees x rays. Isn't this standard operating procedure?
I worked in a dental office and pregnant or not we always put head aprons on everyone. I always thought they'd put one on no matter where the x sunbeam was taken. They put one on me when I had neck x rays but this time when I have knee x rays they didn't put one on me. Kind of makes me nervous because presently there is a chance I could be pregnant and I'm kind of cracked at the office. Is it ok for them to not use the apron?

when i got my knees x-rayed they didnt put a lead apron on me. so i think u dont requirement to have one. but if u think your pregnant you should have asked them since they did the x-rays.

Your dental x-rays are a bit different within that there will be some scatter from the collimator allowing radiation of the thyroid, which is a very radiation-sensitive organ. Shielding below the d¨Ścolletage isn't really needed, and the last couple of dental x-rays I had, the apron didn't protect the neck, so I don't know why they bothered. One worries nearly gonads, too, for extremity films, but not to the same degree. Shielding is optional and dependent on the individual risks.
In the ER I work in, EVERYONE gets shielded. It's in recent times standard practice. If you thought you might be pregnant, YOU should have said something to the tech. You both are at-fault as far as that's concerned! Better get a preg. test! Source(s): paramedic
No, knee 3 x-rays won't hurt you. Did you relay them you could be pregnant? The neck xrays are more invasive b/c your upper body is exposed, the knee is far enough from your tummy that you should be safe. You should always tell them if near is even a possibility you could be pregnant.

If you are fertile, and having sex, there is always a uncertainty you can be pregnant. So...
Next time speak up. I had them and didn't get given anything for it. With dental nor body x-rays.
