What are your opinion on boiling soft contact lenses surrounded by their satchel?

and it sounds to me like I can disinfect my soft contact lenses by putting them in typical in my normal case, next throwing the whole case into a thermos next to boiling water for an hour. Does this really work? My eyes are sensitive and all the cleaning solutions I use make my eyes irritated and sore. If I could sterilize them this road it would be great! I've also read on my products about removing protein... which I assume this method would not do. How essential is the removal of protein? And is there no way that the contacts would thaw out inside my case at this temperature? Thanks in mortgage for your input!

I agree with phantomlimb7. Have you considered changing to daily contacts? They are so much more sterile since you throw them away after one wear. Plus you never hold to worry if you lose them.
And they are actually quite probably priced and worthwhile.

If you note the date of publication. Your reference article be published in 1974. This was in the days when lenses be composed of hard plastics. Not so with today's permeable lenses.

1) Boiling does not kill all germs. And fungi are especially resistant to boiling.
2) Unless you keep the water in the flagon at a roiling boil, you are not sustaining temps long enough or high enough to be powerful.
3) Soft lenses are compose of silicon based polymers. Heat destroys cross-linkages and can deform the lens curvature.
