Could my heart hold stopped?
I did an experiment on myself to see if I had a diving reflex.
I took a really hot sauna and got my heart rate up to 160 (heart rate monitor on) and dunked my entire body including my head underwater surrounded by a "soaker style tub" filled with cold water and 3 40# stacks of ice.
My heart rate went from 150 to about 50 within 45 seconds.
I'm 51 years old and in polite shape with resting heart rate of about 56.
Could this experiment have be dangerous? Could it have stopped my heart?
I did get really dizzy and the in one piece room was spinning for about 5 minutes after the experiment.

Yes, that was hazardous. You can bet that you have some coronary artery disease at your age (and I'm older and also have no symptoms). I wouldn't repeat the experiment.

It's unlikely that your heart would have stopped. You might have faint, however, which could have been disastrous if you were still contained by the plunge pool.
