Is a heart rate of 35 toxic?

My grandmother neglected (possibly deliberately) to take some blood pressure drugs for the last few days because they caused swelling surrounded by her legs. We just took her to the hospital after learning this and her heart rate was 35 right until that time she left. Is this lethal? Will she survive? she's 86 but in pretty pious health otherwise.
Answers:
It's greatly low, but survivable.

I once had a bradycardia event due to submersion in ice-water (in a lab experiment) where my heart rate get down to 15 bpm. I'm still living, but then I'm also really healthy and fit.
Such a low heart rate is make happen for alarm. The normal sinus rhythm for the heart is 60-100 bpm. Any heart rate less than 60 beats/min is known as sinus bradycardia, and is considered an peculiar heart rhythm.

Most patients can tolerate a heart rate of 50-60 bpm, and very well-conditioned athletes and some patients during sleep have heart rates in the low 40s. It's a awfully good sign that she had a detectable heart rate (which means her blood pressure and circulation may enjoy otherwise been adequate).

Bradycardia is common in the elderly, and if she did out with any other serious signs or symptoms, I would predict that she will survive this incident given that she received emergency care before more serious symptoms developed. Source(s): Practicing EMT-Basic.
Depends on the individual, and whether that heart rate was sufficient enough to pump the blood she needed to her critical organs.

There is no way to answer your questions about her prognosis lacking knowing a whole lot more about her physical condition. A low heart rate in itself isn't fatal, but the result of not pumping enough blood to heart, brain and kidneys might be.

Her doctors will do what they can to get her back into shape. The swelling surrounded by her legs may be the result of congestive heart failure (inadequate strength of heart contractions), so that will need to be addressed, and I'm sure it is.
Yes it is fine. I can change the rate of my heart rate and bring it reasonably low like to the range of 20 and 30 and 120 and above, it is probable not good for me but i can do it.
