Can an full-size procure DTP vaccine?
i had it as a child (3 or 4) and i just got another one. I'm 20, and hold only had the regular tetanus since I was 5
Answers:
The DTP vaccine, no; but you probably should take the recently licensed Tdap vaccine. It consists of the standard dosage of tetanus toxoid and reduced amounts of diphtheria toxoid and acellular pertussis vaccine. I believe the brand name in the US is Adacel.
For lots years it has been recognized that adults can acquire mild whooping cough and spread it to infants and children who are much more susceptible. But elder vaccine preparations caused greater reactions in adults, so immunization for pertussis ceased after the age of 5 - 7. As immunity waned - more for pertussis than for diphtheria or tetanus - adults become more susceptible to whooping cough.
And, the Tdap vaccine does not contain thimerosal. Plans are to give the Tdap booster every 10 years instead of the former Td booster. Source(s): CDC, American Academy of Pediatrics
One would hope you had three or four as a child. The adult altered copy, for those over age seven, has half the dose of diphtheria vaccine as the children's dose. That seems backwards, but that's the bearing it's supposed to be, as adults have greater adverse reactions to that component.
