The pro is improved visual acuity and not having to wear goggles or contacts
The cons are Cost and Side effects:
dry eye
floaters
blindness (rare, but has occured)
keratoconus
night glare and halo
ingrowth of epithelium
you still need to wear glasses as you get elder unless you get one corrected for near and one for far. This is because as we age the lens begins to coalesce and loses its ability to adjust the focus of the eye. There is also a risk of over and undercorrection.
The biggest single influence on the likelihood of complications is the surgeon, so get and experienced one. I would vote the majority of patients, including myself, are overall satisfied, but it is surgery and you have to be willing to adopt the risks. Source(s): med student, lasik patient
