Passing out during blood test?

How do you keep from passing out during blood tests? I hold another today for my physical (last one was several years ago) and have to get a blood exam along with it :/

I absolutely hate needles, it doesn't hurt as much as it's the un-natural thought of this piece jabbing into you and sucking stuff out...did I mention I hate needles?

Last time it was going ably and the next thing I remember is several people holding me surrounded by the chair asking if I was ok and telling me it be almost done. Tried it laying down once but they had bad luck finding a artery and it hurt like nothing I'd felt back. I can't look at them or the needle while it's being done or I'm afraid of what I might do.

Suggestions? I was considering bringing my mp3 player along but not sure if that would receive it better or worse...
Answers:
well, you could listen to music.
The doctor should keep your attention focused on something else so it would be good if he or she will tell to you.
You could bring a magazine that would probably attract your eyes and make you think of something better.
You should just try to maintain your mind away, or just to stop thinking :).

I used to like when they suck of the blood, and even more if it was a doctor woman, a pretty one that would be doing that, even if i would see the nozzle.
Take a hot shower or bath right before you go, exercise, amble around a little bit, make sure you eat and drink plentifully, and just try not to think about it. I'm sure the nurse wouldn't own a problem with you listening to music if you just mention that you own an issue with needles. Don't look and try not to think about it. But don't be feeling guilty about fainting. It happens deeply, and its not really something you can control. Source(s): Medical student
Yeah, I was listening to music while they did it the last time, it really help.
I get SO queasy, so I know how you feel.
Um, be sure to drink tons of water beforehand so the blood doesn't embezzle forever to come out. :)
