How do I effectively ensnare a Nurse stealing drugs?

My family is experiencing a member of the nursing staff within their house, possibly stealing drugs.

My brother have 7 day/week nursing staff (no one else other than my parents are in and out of the house this often) and one of them is taking my brother's Tylenol III and my Dad's back spasm medication. My Dad can't go without this. He's already hid it once, and they found it again! He cannot get hold of his prescription refilled until later this week.

My parents have already contacted the nursing agency, but they seem VERY lax about the situation and said they would drug test the nurses, but I'm sure they are either pushing them or endorsement them around to others.

How can my family effectively catch this person to store my brother and Dad pain, but without wrongly accusing or going on the offensive?
BTW, a nanny cam is a bit pricey, but perchance an option. Any other suggestions?

Thank you in advance!!

you might just want to change nurses or agencies than going through the expense of getting this one caught;; unfortunatley her agency doesn't want to deal next to it
you can also put the meds away where noone will find them, or lock them up, & get your brother a pill box for the week, then you can be the sole party to fill his pill box & take care of his meds situation
or appointment your police station, the non-emergency number & ask them what you can do
you may want to call the agency again to find out what they've investigated; or possibly call your insurance company if you KNOW they are taking them & the HC agency isn't doing anything.
I work homecare, have for years & instinctively do not know a single soul that would do something like this;; it's an awful SHAME for these kind of people to thieve advantage of others, they SHOULD NOT BE IN THIS PROFESSION!
all the agencies I've ever worked for require background checks & fingerprinting; hope it help.
Why not just FIRE her? Tell her you feel she is allegedly taking drugs from the house and you don't feel comfortable give or take a few this. You can get another nurse, it's not that hard. Why put up with adjectives the drama and i doubt you can catch her....just let her budge for everyone's peace of mind.
This is totally against the ruling for this person to be diverting drugs. If the agency refuses to act, they are violate recently passed legislation. The best way to catch her within the act ( if you don't want to let her get away next to it ) is to get the Nanny- Cam . set it up to cover the area where the drugs are kept. That instrument, you'll have it on tape. Contact the police in your town for they usually hold all those nifty small cameras & explain the situation to them. See if this is a nurse or a nurses aide (big difference) and report it to the Division of Consumer Affairs, who handle licenses for both. And please explain the situation to your MD for the patients should not enjoy to wait for their pain meds. If you get a police report, your MD should write a investigational prescription for your dad and brother Good luck.. Source(s): NJ RN
Go buy some generic aspirin, tylenol, whatever is cheap. place it in the prescription bottle. put the real pills surrounded by an envelope or some other container . think of it- there are a million places to hide things. it would be best to put it where on earth staff is not likely to even be- maybe with the tools and outdoor stuff.

As associates have mentioned- nannycam is expensive, but some of the older camcorders have a SLP function. unless you own physical evidence- it will be really hard to prove.

You could call the Board of Nursing for your state or the Department of Health.

For now if you newly need to make sure everyone has ample medicine- do the switcheroo. to be really nasty, you could put niacin (one of the B vitamins) in the bottles. it causes a horrid rash and intense itching.

good luck!
