Is zinc, Prevacid and cyproheptadine a right combination?

I am currently giving this prescriptions to my 16 month old son, he has been diagnosed beside failure to thrive:

1ml zinc once a day - appetite stimulant

15mg Prevacid once a day - GERD

2.5 ml Cyproheptadine once a hours of daylight -antihistamine, appetite stimulant
Answers:
What is the CAUSE of your son's failure to thrive? Has he been tested for Celiac Disease?

Best wishes and good luck.
I am surprised you are giving Zinc as an appetite stimulant, as it normally causes nausea. Also, it seems cyproheptadine may cause growth suppression (though I can't find conclusive studies).

However, you are asking if it's a dutiful combination. Did the doctor prescribe this regimen? If so I'm guessing he is a pediatric specialist, in which case he has much experience near this and knows what he's doing. If you are concerned ask him, another physician, or the pharmacist filling your prescriptions. Source(s): PharmD candidate
