If someone be bleeding out and you poured flour on the wound what would start?
or is there something else that you could use that would sort of clot the blood/wound until an ambulance arrived? what are the properties of the substance (flour or other) that make it work?
Answers:
Depending on the severity of the wound, Crazy Glue will trademark the wound and stop the bleeding almost immediately. I cut myself with a box cutter all the mode to the "White meat" and grabbed a tube of crazy glue just as the blood begin to stream, bleeding stopped and wound closed. So long as no major artery is cut, I would go with the epoxy resin, not duct tape or flour.
If not sure, then a clean cloth and direct pressure.
Direct pressure is the way to run. Flour would give you a pile of bloody flour, do no significant good, and contaminate the wound. There are some coagulants the military's using. You may have see the use of the first-generation one in the "Blackhawk Down" movie, but it was significantly exothermic (it got really, really hot), and they're immediately using one that's significantly less so. If it's available on the open market, though, I'm not aware of it. I have to go with an "informal requisition" from the military to get some for my ER.
As crazy as it sounds, I've heard of duct cartridge being used. I don't think flour would be able to stop a focal bleed. Maybe something like being cut when shaving, but it sounds like you're chitchat about medical emergencies.
Try a verbs cloth and then applying direct pressure against the injury to stop the bleeding. Pouring flour on a wound would increase the chance of an later infection.
