Animal testing is legal in adjectives 50 states, Canada, Mexico, Europe, Asia and everywhere else. In most places there are ethical standards that must be upheld if one wants to obtain elected representatives research grants, or publish experimental results. These standards regulate the conditions under which the animals are housed and fed, and keep a tight rein on the types of procedures that can be performed on animals. Universities, Pharmaceutical companies, and most large institutes that rely on animals for testing enjoy Ethical Research Boards that have to approve the research protocols before animals can be used. The guidelines are more strict for animals than for humans. This is not to say that immoral use of animals does not occur. It does, but not as often as it used to be 15 years ago.
