Male Registered Nurse?
Currently I am in high school but I already settled (Hopefully it wont change) that I want to be a registered nurse, here is something that bothers me. Every time we mention nurse, a female nurse pops into our head, Is it normal for a manly to be nurse? Because I do not see a lot of male nurse myself. I think I will be great as a nurse...but it is of late awkward, do people hire female nurse more than male nurse? Do you deduce you would feel awkward if you are a man and was assigned to be taken care of by a mannish nurse?

I don't know how most men would feel about a manly caring for them, but I (a female) had one about 25 years ago when I be in the hospital and he was the best nurse I have have to date. I also experienced a male nurse caring for my dying father several years ago. He was exceptional - merciful and sensitive to my father's concerns and family issues. The female nurses seem far more apt to come surrounded by and due their jobs and rush on to the next patient, whereas the males give the impression of being to spend the time to see/treat my father (and me) as in individual(s). That
was very comforting surrounded by both situations.
Go where your heart takes you and don't worry around what others may think of your vocation.
My mom is an rn and she works with A LOT of male nurses. I don't reflect there's anything wrong with it. I am a major klutz and I am in and out of the hospital constantly. I don't quality uncomfortable at all with manly nurses.
I work near a fair number of nurses who are guys, and there's no big deal about their femininity at all, except that since I'm male myself, it's generally better to hold a female nurse around to chaperone for pelvic exams and such.
Personally, I could care less if my nurse is male or womanly. If that is what you want to do, do it!
no i have a friend who is a male nurse. i also have an uncle who is a nurse practitioner. but right in a minute in the health field manly nurses are in high demand so becoming a nurse is a angelic idea.
I'm a female nurse beside over 40 years experience. When I started very few men went into nursing ( I had 2 contained by my class , both Psych Nurses).Over the years more joined the profession, and now it is very adjectives, with many specializing in ICU where on earth nurses can make more money. Many work on the Baylor Plan, working 2 x 12 hr shifts over the weekend and off during the week, with full benefits. You must know how to handle college courses and most schools now are affiliated beside colleges and hospitals. You also must pass state boards and be licensed by your state to practice. Very rarely you might run into a female tolerant who only wants a female nurse but I've also be asked by a male patient if we didn't have a masculine nurse for him. It is really because it may be a "private" concern & they're just wanting that special touch with someone of the same sex who may construe better. Never take it personally for as long as you know what you're doing, male or feminine, you'll be accepted. Go for it. You've definitely got MY blessing. Source(s): NJ RN
