Why are our intestines so long?

Our food has to travel a hell of a long way. How long are our intestines? Why are they so long and are they the same relative length at birth v. matured adult?
Answers:
they are several feet long!! dude dont question nature, down our intestines work just fine the way they are.
Basically because we're omnivores, our intestines are long to give more surface nouns through which nutrients and water can be absorbed. Carnivores require quite a bit smaller amount in the way of intestine, and herbivores typically have other adaptation (such as multiple stomachs) to help them break down plant material and more effectively absorb the nutrients. We're somewhere isolating.
small intestine 6m (20 ft), large intestine 1.5 m (5 ft) in the average masculine. a little shorter for the average female

Because it means more surface nouns. Your intestines are responsible both for breaking down your food more after your stomach has begun the process and for absorbing nutrients. The more surface area you can expose the food to the better it can be broken down and occupied, so you get all the nutrients out of it before it comes out the other extension.

And maybe something to do with not having to run to the bathroom after every single thing you eat?
