Is it possible to recieve an alzheimer's diagnosis beside a week of seeing the your doctor?

and before seeing a neurologist? before having an mri/pet scan? Before have blood/urine/csf etc tests?

im asking bc a girl i know at uni who has been tryign to diagnose herself beside depression, stress and various other conditions in order to bring back special consideration for our up coming exams, now claims that her 50 year old mother has be diagnosed with alzheimer's and is trying to get spec. consideration (even though she doesnt study at all). they have no family unit history of it either.

She also has a history of being untruthful.
Could she be unfolding the truth? Her mum seems fine, i dont know if the symptoms show immediately...
Answers:
i doubt it as she is young and have not had the syptoms without testing it is virtually impossible to diagnose someone near it under these conditions.
this is more likely for the daughter
Definition of Syndrome, Munchhausen
Syndrome, Munchhausen: Recurrent feigning of catastrophic illnesses. Munchhausen syndrome is a psychological disorder specifically characterized by the recurrent presentation of the patient for treatment of an acute and often dire bad health that is, in reality, gone.

The person with Munchhausen syndrome usually gives a plausible and dramatic history. All of it is entirely false. The tolerant tends to go from hospital to hospital feigning medical or surgical diseases and giving false and capricious information about their medical and social background. They may even have unnecessary surgery repeatedly, resulting for example contained by a "mass of scars" on the abdomen, what has been call a "gridiron abdomen." Some patients with Munchhausen's syndrome cause their own bug, as by secretly ingesting or injecting substances.

although she could just be lazy and a a f*cking con artist.
it is possible, as the first thing they do is a memory test to check for alzheimers if u fail this afterwards this is a good indication of it. however it doesnt always show on a scan. my mother has severe dementia and even passed the test first of all however she was eventually diagnosed but the brain scan is clear. consultant told us that she has see people with bad brain scan who are fine and peopple beside good ones like my mum who are totally demented. 50 is very young-looking to be diagnosed with alzheiimers and it is called early start at this age family history has nothing to do next to it either we have no family history if her mum have it she will not be able to remember things like her name, address, puts things down and forgets where on earth she puts them, gets the days date wrong (as it thinking its winter when its summer etc) also strange things like putting milk in cupboard tea plenty in fridge things like that. hopefully this girl has not made it up as its not something to be taken insubstantially. sounds like the girl should be getting medical attention herself. self diagnosis will not help in the exams she will involve a doctors letter direct to the examination authorities. or similar proof Source(s): mother with severe dementia
