What is the difference between Paracetamol & Ibuprofen?
Answers:
one is stronger i think and should only resembling be given to adults(ibuprofen)
but im not sure
Ibuprofen is derived from aspirin?? I don't believe so. It's a propionic acid derivative.
Paracetamol (Tylenol, acetaminophen) is an analgesic and antipyretic.
Ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil) is an anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antipyretic and mild antiplatelet. Source(s): Pharmacist
I work in a pharmacy so I SHOULD know this.
Ibuprofen is derived from aspirin, salicylic acid. This means that it is an NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug), giving it the properties of strain relief, anti-inflammation and lowering elevated body temperature, without cause drowsiness.
Paracetamol is similar - it reduces elevated temperature and relieves pain minus drowsiness, but it doesn't reduce inflammation.
The real difference is in side-effects. Ibuprofen can be unsafe for asthmatics and - I think - is more likely to cause vandalize the stomach lining and cause nausea, but this is very unlikely within over-the-counter doses. Also, people who are illergic to aspirin are illergic to ibuprofen.
Generally, I prefer to reccommend paracetamol for pain without inflammation, by and large headaches. If it is muscular or ligament pain, I prefer to reccommend ibuprofen, so long as they are not asthmatic or illergic to salicylic acid.
