Catheter during small foot surgery?
Will I have to get a catheter if I am having one screw put contained by the side of my foot? Also would they administer anesthesia for such a small surgery or would it be local?
Answers:
No catheter is for when you cannot move to the toilet on crutches or wheelchair you can get there
Id say no to the catheter as long as you can urinate before you give up your job the hospital. Probably a local but that depends on the surgeon and the anesthesiologist. The first time I had knee surgery they used a spinal because I had eat earlier and couldn't go under common. The anesthesia can cause kidneys to temporally shut down and that's why they want you to urinate before you leave. Even if they do want to use a catheter dont worry they really dont hurt and as far as being embarrassed their professionals and theres really no call for for embarrassment.
Catheters are used for very long surgeries or abdominal operations and sometimes in patients beside other medical problems that make fluid balance an important issue.
If you are immature and healthy it is very unlikely that you will have a catheter for foot surgery.
You will most imagined have a general anaesthetic. Local will not work if the screw is going through your bone. They could use a spinal if you had any medical problems that intended you weren't fit for a general. Source(s): Medical professional
