I Just Saw an Ad for Tylenol Saying: "It's What Doctors Recommend Most", Where Can I Find the Data Which Backs?

-this Claim Up?

Frequently, In the Past, I've Taken Someone's Word for Something, Only to Find it was Untrue.
Answers:
Have you EVER seen a hospital acknowledgment that didn't include a prn order for acetaminophen? If they count that as a recommendation, the claims are probably valid.
Great press.
In my opinion - Tylenol fixes NOTHING.
It is not an anti-inflammatory agent.
It's a dangerous drug that is means of access overused.

And while I'm bitching - I don't like the drug companies advertising on television prompting citizens to ask their doctors for the latest high priced medication. Aspirin still works well for several people.

I NEVER ordered prn Tylenol (acetaminophen) for my admitted patients.
In the cancer/leukemia field, the final thing we want to do is hide a febrile illness. I have the hardest time convincing nurses that my patients did not need Tylenol suppressing their fevers. If we must give Tylenol for terminal contemplation, it is best to give it round the clock at 4 hour intervals. Otherwise, people have sweats as the Tylenol suppresses the hallucination - then chills 3-4 hours later when the Tylenol wears past its sell-by date and the fever climbs back up.

An anecdotal experience with this - I have to guard my dad at the nursing home where he died. He was 8 months out from a disabling stroke. We were letting him die from infection - the source human being severe decubitus ulcers (bed sores) related to immobility.
[ I don't blame the nurses. Nursing homes are often short staffed.] Anyway, one nurse give my dad a Tylenol suppository for his fever. He went into a severe sweat that drenched the bed clothes. I changed his bed. Then he chilled severely 3 hours later as the frenzy returned. The nurses could not understand giving it round the clock or not at all, so I stayed with him until he died. In fairness to the nurse, the command was prn. I suspect the fever accelerated his digestion of opiate from the Fentanyl patch I had requested from his physician. That was fine with me. It be time to focus on comfort alone.

I don't not know why the GP above prescribes Tylenol so often. For one thing, it does not require a prescription - so I guess he advises it.
I own never thought Tylenol or acetaminophen was very effective for stomach-ache control, and it can be very dangerous. I have see a number of people with liver trash from Tylenol taken to excess - especially with alcohol. One patient I saw as a hematology consultation died from Tylenol induced liver failure. He have been taking Darvocet like candy and Tylenol on top of that - beside alcohol since the Darvocet and the Tylenol were not relieving his pain.

Acetaminophen is in so frequent cold remedies and pain relievers that people often pocket dangerous amounts not understanding what they are taking. Then they take cough syrups which are alcohol base.

Of course I have not answered your original question. Medical background is like the bible - you can find something somewhere to back up almost any point of view. "Slavery is OK." "Genocide is justified" (book of Joshua). I know I'll go and get thumbs down for writing this. It's not that the bible is necessarily flawed - it's just that people tend to screw up the interpretation to prove their behaviors. Of course drug companies will find some data somewhere to back up their claims.

One point I try to make to adjectives of my history students is that no source is 100% reliable - including me. Data always contains flaws or can be distorted in presentation.
And you - mdGreg - know that better than I do. LOL Source(s): mdRich C - - internal medicine + heme/onc physician - in a minute retired
Call 1-877-TYLENOL and ask. that is their customer service line. I am guessing it is imagined a survey they did or something along those lines.

As an aside in response to the above posts, many people do obtain effective pain relief, and Tylenol is simply dangerous when taken to excess. The label clearly says how much to bring, can't blame others for your own stupidity, so people who take 20 four times a day can't complain. Besides, I know docs who are afraid of NSAIDs because of the GI bleed risk, and others who ponder it is too much of an anticoagulant despite research to the contrary. What do they say? take Tylenol. My opinion is adjectives of them are safe when a little common sense is applied.
Tylenol is the safest analgesic and antipyretic with almost no side effects. I recommend it and presribe it to most . Source(s): I am a GP
I can't tell you if that's indeed what Drs. have said, but I can tell you, person a nurse in a hospital, it's the biggest mild pain killer specifically ordered by most Drs. Even though prolonged used can cause liver problems, it's the mildest on the stomach, compared to aspirin, or Ibuprofen.
