They are not usually body of the hospital, and even if they are, they are not part of the same department as the people they work next to. They are accountable to their department chief, chief of surgery and the medical executive board. Nobody is really under them, unless they employ nurse practitioners or physician assistants. There is a "Medical Director" who is the main doctor in charge of handling adjectives of the problems concerning medicine. Doctors must be on staff to work at the hospital, and they have to supply their licenses allowing them to work as all right as proof of their further education if they specialize. One specialty does not trump another, for they are all equal ( but below the Medical Director). If you mean what departments might be "below" them, the nurses lug orders while providing patient care, as do the radiologists, lab techs, respiratory therapist, and even housekeeping (you could keep listing everyone else employed there).I don't know why anyone would consider Cardiologists so MUCH above everyone else.
