Answers:
Make sure you state adjectives of the voluntary work as well as work experience you have done.
Demonstrate a passion for your subject and that you own looked into your chosen career and not just thought about it over breakfast.
Demonstrate that you hold the right frame of mind to complete, and i stress, complete, a degree. A small example of an obstical to you have had to obverse but overcome in order to study your chosen career - shows enthusiasm and determination.
Demonstrate that you are not just a work horse and that you have a life away from your books. Partying/ clubbing are not really suitable option. Dinner parties and dancing are better ways of putting this across.
Show that you are dynamic and have an propensity to think fast on your feet.
If you hold done any work experience and have seen a doctor to whom you look up to/ respect/ aspire to then look at the merits they posses and try to express your similar ones. Remember - they are looking to accept students who do not need to learn how to be a biddable doctor, just the skills required to be a good doctor. You can't teach someone to be kind but you can teach someone to perform a lumbar puncture.
You have like mad to fit into just a small space and it's not easy, but write out several drafts, condensing as you go. My personal statement be origionally an A4 sheet but got it down to fit in the box. Get someone to proof read your drafts. Not family or friends as they can show bias and it is not other a fair assessment of your efforts.
